Register for the first quarter meeting of the Arkansas Trucking Association Safety Management Council on Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30 am at the Statehouse Convention Center, Meeting Room Drew, 101 East Markham Street, Little Rock, AR 72201.
 
Sponsored by PrePass, this meeting will include sessions on FMCSA's latest updates and 2022 priorities, how higher driver retention improves safety outcomes, and the new work zone safety campaign from Arkansas Department of Transportation.

 
SESSION 1: FMCSA Update
In this presentation, representatives from FMCSA will discuss the administration's 2022 priorities, the Trucking Action Plan introduced by the White House in 2021, how the FMCSA is approaching truck parking issues and working with the Arkansas Department of Transportation to prioritize and expedite funding, and finally, how FMCSA is engaging in workforce issues for the trucking industry.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

Kevin Breedlove graduated with honors from Western Carolina University and holds a bachelor of science in criminal justice.  After college, Breedlove served as a police officer in Mooresville, N.C. He began his career with the United States Department of Transportation as a civil aviation security specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration in Tampa, Fla.  Breedlove has been with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration since 1999 and has held the positions of safety investigator, federal programs specialist and state programs manager.  He is currently serving as the Arkansas division administrator.

Gary Grigg is currently the state program specialist for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Arkansas division. His areas of focus include supporting state partners and providing oversight for all FMCSA grant programs. Grigg began his carrier with the FMCSA as a safety investigator, conducting investigations on motor carriers. Before joining the FMCSA in 2015, Grigg honorably served in the United States Air Force with deployments to the Middle East and South America.

SESSION 2: ARDOT's Work Zone Safety Campaign, Slow Down, Phone Down
Slow Down, Phone Down is a statewide work zone safety campaign aimed at reversing the alarming, rising trend of work zone accidents and injuries across Arkansas. Throughout 2022, Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Highway Police will be cracking down on reckless and distracted driving, and ARDOT will increase its education and awareness around the rules and laws of work zones.

Arkansas Department of Transportation

Dave Parker started as the public information officer with the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) in October 2020. In his first year, he saw the passage of Issue 1, faced a record-breaking winter storm in February and, of course, the shutdown of the I-40 bridge in May 2021.

Prior to starting with ArDOT, Parker spent over 35 years working in local television. He is an Emmy award winning journalist who moved to Arkansas in 2013 with his wife Sara and their four children. They moved to Little Rock from Philadelphia after Parker accepted the position as news director of KTHV, also known as THV11. He’s a graduate of Murray State University, in Murray, Ky.

SESSION 3: Driver Retention and Safety Data
PDA's Darron Ming will present data from over 200,000 phone calls to truck drivers revealing the issues they face while over the road that leads to turnover.  The data can be used to improve their retention and driver attitudes. Experienced drivers leads to safer drivers.

Darron Ming has been in the transportation industry for over 20 years. He started his career with USA Truck, where he spent fourteen years including five as the executive vice president and chief financial officer. While at USA Truck, Ming was responsible for accounting, treasury, risk management, information technology, benefits, investor relations, fuel purchasing, maintenance and various special projects. After leaving USA Truck, Ming managed an expansion of an independent retirement center and memory care facility. After the expansion was complete, Ming joined other investors in 2014 in starting Professional Driver Agency (now PDA). Since starting PDA, he has also joined investors in purchasing Eco Flaps and in starting ELD Solutions (a telematics company). Ming is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Arkansas State University.
